A carbon footprint is historically defined as “The total sets of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an organization, event, product or person.”

The environmental impact is measured throughout an inventory of the green house emissions or a life cycle analysis, depending on the different typologies of footprint, according to the recognized international norms as ISO 14064, PAS 2050 o GHG Protocol. The carbon footprint is measured in terms of CO2 equivalent. Once the size and the footprint are known, it is possible to implement a reduction strategy and/or offsets, throughout different programs, public or private.
